Why the World Food Programme

Sudan is currently facing one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world. Famine has been confirmed in parts of Darfur and Kordofan, and tens of millions of people need urgent help. The World Food Programme is one of the organizations leading the food response on the ground there.

How this actually works

Every payment made on this site goes through Stripe, the same as any normal purchase. Once the 15,000-square goal is reached, half of everything raised will be donated directly through WFP's official donation page. Not a middleman, not an automatic split, a real transfer I make myself. I'll post the donation confirmation right here on this page once it's done, so the pledge isn't just a promise on a webpage.

Want to donate to WFP directly yourself, outside of this project? Donate here.

This is a personal pledge, not an official partnership with or endorsement by the World Food Programme. I'm simply directing part of what's raised here to their public donation channel myself.

Donation proof

Not yet reached. Proof of the actual transfer will be posted here once the 15,000-square goal is hit.

A note from the creator who made this

This project was heavily inspired by The Million Dollar Homepage, a site created back in August 2005. It started off as a hobby, then turned into something more valuable, with the goal of benefiting people in need in Sudan, while also giving people value by letting them promote their businesses or aspirations through this site.

Frequently asked questions

What happens after I pay?

Your painted design is saved and shows up on the grid for everyone to see, for as long as this site is running. If you added a link, clicking your square takes visitors straight to it.

Is my square really mine to keep?

Yes. Once it's confirmed, it's yours, with no expiry date and no renewal fees. I intend to keep this site running indefinitely, though like any website I can't guarantee it against something outside my control, like a hosting provider shutting down. That risk is accepted as part of buying a square here.

Can someone else buy a square I already own?

No. Once a square is claimed, it's locked. No one else can select or purchase it, including me.

Can I change my design after buying?

Not currently. What you paint before checking out is what gets saved. Think of it like the original pixel projects this is inspired by: once it's placed, it stays.

How do I know my payment actually went through?

You'll be taken through Stripe's secure checkout, the same system countless real businesses use. Once payment is confirmed, your square appears on the grid, and that's your confirmation.

Is this a real charity donation, or just a claim?

It's real. Once the 15,000-square goal is reached, I'll personally donate half of everything raised to the World Food Programme through their official site, and post proof of the donation right here.

What's the minimum I can buy?

Just one square, if that's all you want. There's no minimum block size.
